So this is my year of walks...

Nothing fancy. It is exactly what it says it is. Over the next year, I want to take a walk every day. For an entire year. Hopefully, along my journey I can discover better health, weight loss, and a sense of direction and purpose in my life. And so my journey begins. On my way to a better me.

Took my 46th walk at twilight here in the neighborhood. It was the three mile route that I took the other day, but when I came to the townhomes below I had a thought...

These might be done within the year that I take my walks, and I'll shoot another picture from the same angle for a little side by side comparison. I hope that won't be the ONLY change in appearances.

Crest Lake Park is probably a place I never would have visited had I not been into walking, and wanted to meet my friend Zoltan and his son PJ for a walk today. The park is beautiful, and it's right on Gulf to Bay in Clearwater, but probably remains unnoticed by the people traveling to and from the beach. It's worth a stop.

Zoltan came down from Chicago, and we hung out and talked about things, and enjoyed watching his 4 1/2 year old son climb on everything that doesn't move.

P.J. takes some time out for a much need drink. This is a water moustache captured on film. Cute kid!

One of the strangest things I ever saw was how these birds managed to sit atop these little mini trees in the water.
Zoltan and PJ. A great father-son walk in the park.

Feb 13, 2010

Took a short walk today, it was windy and cold again, despite the sun that you see. In celebration of the upcoming holiday tomorrow, I made a mental note to take my picture in front of this street sign. I think it works, but I should've shaved.
You can see by the sway in the hanging Spanish moss just how windy it was. And that air had a chill in it.
Took a little time out to shoot a picture in the sun. You'd think I'm at a ranch but this is the parking lot of one of the local churches. Pretty scenery out here.

Walk 43 today happened in the neighborhood. I took the day off and my car is in for new tires and an oil change, so this is what I did on my day off. Turned out to be a pretty good walk, I put in a full hour and logged about 3-plus miles today. It was windy, cold and a bit rainy by the time the walk was over, but good to see some new sites around the neighborhood.

This is just a little runoff creek, but from the bridge above, it looks and sounds like a little waterfall. If you use your imagination... it can be a REAL waterfall. It made nice slooshy sounds.

Where will you walk when the sidewalk stops?

Nobody on the golf course today. It is dreary out there.

Think I'll stop in for a round. Oops... forgot my clubs! LOL... it was a good walk today.

Feb 11, 2010

This is my 42nd walk. Today I went over to the Carillon park to get my walk in before the evening. EJ is playing in a concert tonight, and I've about had enough of the dark. I did the two rounds instead of the one, so I got in a good, complete walk.

Posing cool. Yeah right, should have moved that trash can. Darn!
I love this tower! It rang when I was walking today. Striking 4 o'clock. It has that big bell sound and rang out something similiar to the NBC theme.
Like a sheet of glass! That tower casts a magnificent mirror image in the lake. I can't get enough of this icon!

Feb 10, 2010

Tonight is my 41st walk on a Wednesday night, lottery night. I stopped into the local convenience store and picked up a couple of tickets. Hey! Who knows? It could happen.

Did I mention it was cold? Well, it's 50 tonight and very breezy. I took this picture for my buddy Tom up in Washington D.C. because he's been trapped in his house for about a week in the insane Mid-Atlantic snowstorm of 2010. They're calling it "Snow-mageddon" and it's been pretty crazy up there! Sorry guys, we're busy sweatin' this 50 degree weather.

I haven't been to El Cap in about 3 years. Went there for lunch today and had the talapia sandwich. It used to be grouper, but that's pretty rare and expensive these days. Nevertheless, it was just great!

Feb 9, 2010

Today is a bit of a milestone. 40 walks and still counting! That's pretty good. I don't know how many people would believe I could actually commit to something like this, I can't even say that I believed it, but I think I found the solution. Whatever it is, it's inside me and if I figure it out, I'll tell you the secret. I just turned it into "my thing" and I enjoy "my thing" now. You know why? Because its MY thing.
This is a big vacant lot for sale just up the street from where my walks begin. One day this will be a front yard to a home and someone will be telling me to get off their lawn! But you know what that will mean? I'm still out there walking!
I love this tree and little patch of growth. It's sort of the mini haunted forest of my neighborhood walks. Love this little patch.
Okay, here's a preachy little environmental moment... three days ago, maybe a week this was not filled with trash. It was a clean marshland. This is disgusting and I now have to pass it every day. One day, I'll find a way to clean it up. I hate this. Find a trash can please, or better yet, stop your drinking and driving.
