So this is my year of walks...

Nothing fancy. It is exactly what it says it is. Over the next year, I want to take a walk every day. For an entire year. Hopefully, along my journey I can discover better health, weight loss, and a sense of direction and purpose in my life. And so my journey begins. On my way to a better me.

Tonight I walked with Melissa for walk #293 and we took a walk through the neighborhood and up to the Subway shop where she'll start work tomorrow. I love the fact that we're bonding again.
They trimmed my big scary tree down the street!

Heyyyy! Whaddyagonna do?

Melissa at her Subway shop, where she'll begin work tomorrow. Good luck Melly, now go inside and get your shirt, cap and apron.

The right angle can make this palm tree look like a huge pineapple.

Walk #292 tonight is just a short little baby walk around Dad's Nursing home grounds. You have to make due when and where you can. The key is all about dedicating that little chunk of time that you take out of your day, and make it all your own.

Mom and Dad trying to sort it all out. Dad's been confused for a few days, and Mom's just filling him in.
Dad is actually pretty comfortable for the amount of things that are going on with him. He's such a fighter... God I've learned a lot about endurance from my father.

Glad to be anywhere walking...

Tonight is walk 291 and I'm a little high on cough medicine. I took a couple of teaspoons before heading out and was a little woozy at first. I realized I had to get my walk in before I passed out, which is what I plan to do after this blog entry.

Clear blue skies and this is where the walk begins...

This house is now almost finished, and this was nothing more than a lot when I first started my walks. It'll be finished before I end my Year of Walks.

Who knew we had one of these in the neighborhood? What the hell is a hookah anyway?

Melly and me on walk 290 tonight up in Palm Harbor along Shore Drive. A beautiful night and lots of weird things happened, from finding an ugly kitty, to watching thousands of birds migrate out to a tiny island out in the intercoastal.

That's the island out there where thousands of black birds head out to spend the night.

Melly climbs one of those crazy oaks.

Look at this twisted black tree. It just looks evil.

Melly tresspassing... because she can.

A walk along Shore Drive gave us a view of how the other half lives. These houses are obnoxious in their majesty. And the journey continues... 10 walk to 300!

Today is walk 298 and I'm walking and working at the SPCA 3K Pet Walk in St. Petersburg. This is Christi Smith and her dog Willow. I work with Christi, and now she's part of the journey! People are really cool outside of work!

Leigh USED to work for Bay News 9, now she's in charge of the SPCA events, and this one was stellar. Lots of fun, big turnout, and everything was so well coordinated! Great to see Leigh again.

Kristin, Kelli and Caitlin working the booth! We had popular giveaways today.

Caitlin took on this Great Dane, and just loved him up!

This is Brad Clore. I walk at work with his wife, Kelly. Brad is an amazing freelance photog for a lot of the special projects we have at Bay News 9.

Now THATS a puppy face!

These are the winners of the puppy costume contest. Pups of the Caribbean! Makes sense.

Nick is married to Leigh and this is his dog. Great to see so many friends in one day.

It's crazy hair!

V.J. rocking the zombie makeup! She's wild, she's crazy... and just awesome!

Tonight is walk 287, and this is a special walk. After dinner with my friend Nancy at Chattaway's, we headed across the street to walk here, in Bartlett Park.

This is Nancy. She's a great girl. Met her at her shop Books at Park Place. We share a passion for books and she's a lot of fun!

We found it odd that anyone would want to "molest" alligators. Never thought they'd need a sign for that. After reading this sign, we wanted to find those alligators seeking molestation.

While posing for the walk-shot, apparently Nancy was on the lookout for alligators (seeking molestation?) LOL...

This is sunset at Bartlett Park. A pretty night. Good dinner. Better company... the journey continues...

Walk 286 tonight. I'm up in Palm Harbor after seeing Dad. He's tired tonight. A little down. On the way home, I decide to go west on Tampa road to see where the sunsets happen. A few twists and turns past mansions and shacks, and I arrive at this little marina just in time.

This little bait shop stood out as vintage little village architecture. It works so much better in black and white. I don't know why the columns surround this place. I hope they're not building anything new. This place has old-time charm.

Catching the self-timer just at the right moment... priceless! I look tired. I am tired.

This is Jack, a black lab awaiting his owner to begin playtime. He likes to swim and chase skipping stones. He is oblivious to any activity around him and is focused on every move of his owner.

Birds flying in for the night. It's amazing how they time out their return home every evening at just the right time.

Jack and his owner enjoying playtime. It was fun watching them. They managed to take my mind off the day and relax and smile. The journey continues...

October 12, 2010

Walking wih the girls again today for 285. Kelly and Kristin in tow, and we were HOT! Even though it's October, that sun was beating down on us. Kelly give me the "you're #1" signal from behind. We're good to go.

Barriers? We don't need no stinking barriers.

Beautiful egret on the shorline of the Carillon pond.

LOL... swim into the light! These turtles are just SO playful. They think we have food.

A rare moment of shade and we kick it up a notch. Today FELT long... but we were on point!
