So this is my year of walks...

Nothing fancy. It is exactly what it says it is. Over the next year, I want to take a walk every day. For an entire year. Hopefully, along my journey I can discover better health, weight loss, and a sense of direction and purpose in my life. And so my journey begins. On my way to a better me.

June 7, 2010

If the face looks a little flushed, it's because I'm walking outside in 88 degree weather with about 90 percent humidity at 6:45pm. This is walk 158 tonight, and it's a sweaty one. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things now that Dad's home and I'm not going to have to rush up to the hospital at night to visit with him. I'm SO glad my dad's home. He MADE it. He's the strongest man I know, and my mother, always by his side, has the strength of 1000 women. I firmly believe it is because of her that he is alive. I don't think anyone will argue that fact. Welcome home Dad. I love you.

On my 3 mile journey, I had to go by one of my favorite places to show you what's happened since my journey began. This USED to be the sign for Village Inn. The restaurant was right down the street, and a gathering place for my family on frequent occasions. The food good and cheap, the memories...priceless. Free pie Wednesdays? Can you beat that?

Here's what it looks like empty. Sad. This used to be the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. The place for Sunday breakfasts, evening meals and early bird specials. It's just a piece of property now. Property for sale. I hope they put up something new to bring the joy back to this spot.

I'm flushed, sweaty... and happy. Satisfied with a decent walk, back on track as the journey continues. Only 5 more walks until my halfway point.
